Margo's Evil Eye Designed, prodded and owned by Margo Winning. Made with a mix of jumpers, scarves and skirts, some of which are hand-dyed, in Scotland in 2010. This was a test piece, made as a sample for working with groups of
people interested in learning the technique in traditional pattern, but using
bright, vibrant colours. This traditional ‘evil eye’ pattern is supposed to
ward off unwelcome visitors and evil spirits, as told to me by my rag rug
mentor, Mary Dayton. It lives happily in the doorway of my conservatory and
provides a welcoming step in.
