Waves 22"x16" designed prodded and owned by Cilla Cameron in 2011 in Nottinghamshire. The mat was prodded from the back with a wooden prodder using recycled hand dyed and as is wool material cut 2"long x 1/2" wide. My friend Miriam Miller's grandson David made a cushion with lovely block colours in a wavy pattern I loved the movement and so design the rug below. You can see the cushion on page 49 in Miriams book Proggy and Hooky Rugs. Actually this is the third one I have made the two previous ones are now sold.

Yorkshire Barn
Yorkshire Barn 44"x29" designed prodded and owned by Cilla Cameron. Made with recycled hand dyed and as is wool material eg blanket, skirts jackets and jumpers cutting the pieces 2"long x 1/2" wide. Made approx. eight years ago in Nottinghamshire. I took the photograph of this barn in Grisedale above Hawes in Nth Yorks and thought it would make a nice proddy mat. I enlarged the photograph and transferred it to a hessian backing adding the stone wall border. The sky on the photograph was very dull so I studied skies and chose a brighter blue. I prodded it from the back with a wooden prodder.Monday, 31 December 2012
Hareing Around
'Hareing around' designed made and owned by Cilla Cameron. Just under 6ft across made with recycled hand dyed and as is wool material. Blankets skirts and jumpers were cut into peices 2"long x 1/2" wide and made with a spring hook. It was made in Nottinghamshire in 1998 I prodded the year into the rug. I love this rug it has been down in my studio since I made it and it is still looking good I don't think the picture shows it to its best. Over the years it has had many feet walking over it it is by the back door and kitchen door so a heavy traffic area it is holding up very well being made with wool. I can't remember what inspired the design I knew I wanted to make a round rug with hare's on and a big border having done a weeks workshop with Jule Marie Smith on borders.
Mad March Hares
Mad March Hares 28"x44" designed prodded and owned by Cilla Cameron. Made with recycled hand dyed and as is wool material including blankets, kilts, coats and sweaters and prodder with a wooden prodder from the back. I cut the pieces of material 2" long x 1/2" wide if they are cut any longer for pictures they flatten and the picture is not so sharp. It was made about 4 years ago in Nottinghamshire, I love to make proddy picture mats and came up with the idea of hares (it was on my list of design ideas) and have often seen Mad March hares boxing when I have been riding across the countryside on my horse. The design was scribbled on several pieces of paper and two hare templates I had from years ago where enlarged and the design was born.

The Good Old Proddy Mat
There is so little information and pictures of Proddy Mats most books are about Hooked Rugs I thought it would be a good idea to record the proddy mats made in the UK firstly on this blog and perhaps into a book or booklet sometime in the future.
If you would like proddy mats you made or own to be included email me at priscillacameron1@googlemail.com for the information sheet.
